Emotional Numbness Check-In

These self-assessments are educational screening tools, not medical tests. They cannot diagnose any condition. Only a licensed clinician can provide a diagnosis.

Unlike the other tools in this section, this check-in is not a validated clinical instrument. We wrote it for one common, hard-to-describe experience: feeling emotionally flat, muted, or unable to enjoy things the way you used to — what clinicians call anhedonia or emotional blunting. Use it as a structured way to reflect and to describe the experience to a professional, not as a test.

Over the last 2 weeks, how often has each of these been true for you?

  1. 1.Activities I used to enjoy feel flat or uninteresting

  2. 2.Good news or compliments don't seem to land the way they used to

  3. 3.Food, music, or entertainment brings less pleasure than before

  4. 4.I feel emotionally "numb" or muted, even in situations that should feel meaningful

  5. 5.I go through the motions with people I care about without feeling connected

  6. 6.I have trouble looking forward to anything

  7. 7.Finishing something I worked hard on doesn't feel satisfying

  8. 8.I notice myself pretending to feel enjoyment I don't actually feel
