What SPRAVATO® is

SPRAVATO® (esketamine) is an FDA-approved prescription nasal spray for adults with treatment-resistant depression, and for depressive symptoms in adults with major depressive disorder with acute suicidal thoughts or actions. It is related to ketamine, but it is a distinct, FDA-approved medication with its own indication, its own safety program, and a defined clinical protocol.

Unlike a typical prescription, SPRAVATO® is never taken at home. It is administered only in certified treatment centers, under medical supervision, through a federally required safety program. That structure isn't a hurdle — it's the point. It ensures every dose happens in a monitored, clinical setting.

What a treatment session looks like

You self-administer the nasal spray in our clinic under the guidance of our care team. Then you remain with us for a required monitoring period of about two hours, resting in a comfortable, private space while our team checks on you. Common effects during a session can include feelings of dissociation (a dream-like or disconnected sensation), sleepiness, or dizziness — which is why monitoring is required and why you cannot drive yourself home on treatment days. You'll need a ride, and the effects of the session day generally resolve with rest.

Treatment typically begins with more frequent sessions, then spaces out over time based on your response — your prescriber sets the schedule with you.

Who SPRAVATO® is designed for

The core candidate is someone with treatment-resistant depression — generally meaning adequate trials of antidepressant medication haven't brought adequate relief.
